Water Lilies from Germany

One of my favorites types of postcards is the art card.  This one received from Germany shows a 1934 watercolor called "Waterlilies" by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.  He is now considered to be one of the greatest of the German Expressionists and is also well known for his woodcuts, printmaking and sculpture.

Quirky Fact about Hyphenated Names

Karl Schmidt was born in Rottluff, Germany.  He later decided to add his birthplace to his name and thus became Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.  This might be an interesting custom to adopt, however
certain towns would not lend themselves well to this usage, for example;

Sopchoppy, Florida
Hygiene, Colorado
Toad Suck, Arkansas
Hellhole Palms, California
Rabbit Hash, Kentucky
Square Butt, Montana
