Kite-flying is very popular in China. It is considered to bring good luck and to take bad luck away. Or, in the case of the kite shown above, to take your mother-in-law away.
Quirky fact about Chinese kites
Some early Chinese kites were used for military purposes. Some were large enough to carry troops aloft to spy on enemy movements, or to scatter propaganda leaflets. None of these troops were ever seen again.
